I would like to thank Dr. Luis Castro, Dr. Adam Harmon, Dr. David Parris and the wonderful staff of Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City, California. They got me through surgery and well on my way to recovery. I had an MVV and Maze III procedure. I ended up needing a full sternotomy to get the best advantage to repair my mitral valve. I have no doubts that this amongst other decisions were the best for me. I continue my follow up with Central Coast Cardiology's Dr. Richard Gerber and know that I am looking forward to a very long and healthy future. Thank you all.

Today I feel very emotional. I know that I have chosen a good surgeon, I know that I have read everything I can find and watched every video I could find, and for me, that is important. Knowledge makes me calmer. I have read and reread Adam's book and prepared every needful thing. However, for whatever reason, I have these days where I just cry. I don't feel sad or scared, I just cry. The heart may be an organ, but for me, it is a very emotional one.

Eddie Patton I feel you. It's hard for someone that hasn't been through this to understand. I was the same way no matter how much I researched and no matter the statistics there is still that part of you that says yea but why me. Absolutely normal and don't feel bad about it. For me the emotional part pre Surgery was worse than the physical part post surgery. Allow your self to cry, scream, throw stuff, or whatever. I consider myself a tough guy but leading up to surgery I would cry like a baby over anything. Good luck I'm sure you will do fine.

Mary K I cried, too. It is a way for the emotions to release. I am ten weeks out now, and still I occasionally cry, now in gratitude. I am alive, and feeling better every day. Not to worry, you have plenty of company. The Victorian had tiny little bottles to save their years in. Maybe we should find one.

Bethany spence Yesterday I had one of those days. Felt alone in this journey. I have surgery coming up in the next 2 months and unless you have been through it, don't try to know what it feels like. I agree with you, the statistics and facts are there. But it is still scary as heck. I am young and have 2 young kids. I am scarred for that reason. I don't know how to explain this to them without scaring them too.

Rita Savelis Crying is good. There's certainly a lot to cry about. A lot that no one else will ever understand. Releasing it all is good. I remember crying as I was lying in the surgery room, waiting for OHS, naked, my skin covered with orange betadine. The nurses just asked me banal questions to get me to stop. But I think it was certainly a moment to cry, wasn't it?
