Send Eddie a NoteAbout Me
50 year old male. Have been very active, work out 5 times a week, softball, golf, etc. On a routine visit to my GP he says you have a heart murmur and wanted to see a cardio guy. Went for my appointment and at the end he said I'm pretty sure you have a bad valve and sent me for an echo. Results come back and boom, open heart surgery will need to be done and pretty soon.
Update: So after confirming the bicuspid valve and talking to my surgeon it appears this came from my mother's side of the family. She died of a brain aneurysm at 43 and apparently people with a bicuspid valve are at increase risk. Additionally my grandfather died of a "heart issue" at 46. While no one knows what the actual problem was they said he would pass out a lot so my guess is they both had this. I guess for better or worse at least I know how this happened. On to the fixing and fighting my way back.
