My name is Amy. I am 50 years old and I currently have a (pig) mitral valve that I received in April 2017 after an episode of dizziness and sob while working. I had a relatively good recovery. I did have an ablation 6 months post op due to continued A flutter. I was doing fantastic until November of 2024. I had a sudden episode of sob and the fatigue was unreal. I saw every physician on my radar and after being treated for “possible pneumonia”, which I never had to covid pneumonia I finally was permitted a TEE in March that revealed severe mitral valve regurgitation and stenosis. I am now waiting for dental clearance so that I can move forward with another open heart surgery. I have decided on the mechanical valve this time. Guess I didn’t understand enough about it the first go round. Will be going to Vanderbilt in Nashville. I am a praying southern gal so I know I will be ok just a bit nervous. Prayers and and any advice moving forward would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance.
Kimberly Eisenhut Amy, I will be praying for you and sending big hugs and lots of love going forward

Amy Campbell I had my second mitral valve replacement at Vanderbilt in Nashville 5/26/2025, got a mechanical valve this time and praying it last for the rest of my days, three days later I had to have a permanent pacemaker maker put in for heart block. I am writing to say thank you for all of the prayers. Please keep them coming as life is scary with the whole INR monitoring and warfarin. But I can rest assured knowing God didn’t bring me this far to leave me. I am doing great. Been home 5 weeks and it’s my first night out of the recliner and back in my bed. A little tense but grateful. Praying all of you are doing well. If I can ever answer questions or help in anyway please let me know. Continued prayers for all of you and God bless you all!

I just want to say that this site continues to inspire me. I want to comment on every post and obviously that would take forever. I discovered this site shortly after my mitral valve replacement on April 20,2017 and it has changed the way I look at things. If you are going infor open heart surgery or you are on the mend I can tell you there is hope and there is life after surgery. I pray over everyone in this site. If I can ever answer any questions please do not hesitate to ask. I was four weeks into Nurse Practioner school when my disease was found. I took 4 weeks off for surgery and I will be finished in one year!!! Glory to God! Prayer works. Thanks to Adam for making this site possible.
Best regards to all and God Bless!
