Twelve years ago my family practice doctor sent me to a cardiologist to evaluate my mitral valve. I was diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse with severe regurgitation. Since that time I have had an annual stress test and was told I'd need to have it repaired one day. This past December my cardiologist said it was time to speak to a surgeon....and thus it begins! Local cardiologists suggested I look out of town for high volume surgeons and said my valve was "complicated." After my own research, talking to many people I trust in medicine and this website, I landed with Dr. McCarthy.
