I was diagnosed with mitral valve regurgitation about 12 years ago. It just reached the stage where it was classified as severe regurgitation with severe left atrial enlargement about 3 months ago. I was referred to a great surgeon, Dr. Robert L. Smith, at the Heart Hospital Baylor Plano. He advised that I needed mitral valve repair surgery within the next 6 months or so. My wife and I did not want to wait, so we scheduled the surgery which was done on April 13th, 2016. The surgery went great. There is no more leakage and I have been told by several different doctors that my echo looks great. The recovery has been tougher than I anticipated, but, at 7 weeks out I am going pretty well. I am really grateful to Dr. Smith, his staff, and the Heart Hospital Baylor Plano.
