Dr. Woo identified my MR as severe bileaflet prolapse and severe Barlow disease and suggested repair surgery. He said it is a complex repair but has confidence it will be a repair and not replacement. I am 64 and need to choose a replacement type for if it becomes necessary. Surgery is almost 3 months away and not sure if I should try to do it sooner (want to avoid symptoms or possible heart trouble). He seemed good with the date.
Backtrack 6 months and I was at an urgent care for a severe cough that wouldn't go away even though I was on antibiotics (likely a virus). During exam the doctor mentioned I had a murmur. I mentioned this to my GP a few months later and he suggested that I get it checked out. The initial echocardiogram was enough to send me for more evaluation and a TEE. Then a referral to Dr. Woo.
