About Me (In My Own Words)
Age 59….I was diagnosed in 2011 with aortic valve stenosis and had surgery to replace my bicuspid valve with a bovine prosthesis in February of 2011. This was my first health issue and a complete surprise.
Less than two years later the symptoms reappeared and tests showed that my valve had developed scar tissue and restenosis had occurred. Now that it's more severe, surgery will be soon.
The question is: my valve is very small (19mm) and to replace it with the same size valve could bring the same problem. So I will have a root extension or complete root replacement (porcine root and valve)
I'm hoping for just a root extension because a root replacement is more invasive. Arteries will have to be reattached. The surgeon will determine which one is the best fit during surgery.
I hope to wait till after Christmas but may go sooner.
2025:
Update- 2025. The above mentioned second surgery did not happen. Miraculously, with many prayers, the next echo appeared normal and I was on a wait and see diagnosis.
In May 2021, ten years later, my bovine valve became stenosed. This happened right after the Covid vaccine my heart was racing, jumping, near fainting etc.
At age 69, and being the second OHS, Drs decided to use a mechanical valve to hopefully avoid a third OHS.
I was having many issues with my head, severe dizziness, which became worse after the surgery.
This type valve requires warfarin, and three weeks after my surgery I had a cerebral hemorrhage
It has been quite debilitating with my head spinning and a lot of pressure.
I am grateful to be alive and hope to live and enjoy my family and grandchildren whom I adore
This site and Adam’s first book gave me the information , strength and courage with God in control. I have learned to trust God’s plan and have become stronger.
My prayers are for those facing and recovering from surgery.
The wonderful Drs and Adam’s informative sessions are priceless.
