About Me

I was diagnosed in 2011 with aortic valve stenosis and had surgery to replace my bicuspid valve with a bovine prosthesis in February of 2011. This was my first health issue and a complete surprise. Less than two years later the symptoms reappeared and tests showed that my valve had developed scar tissue and restenosis had occurred. Now that it's more severe, surgery will be soon. The question is: my valve is very small (19mm) and to replace it with the same size valve could bring the same problem. So I will have a root extension or complete root replacement (porcine root and valve) I'm hoping for just a root extension because a root replacement is more invasive. Arteries will have to be reattached. The surgeon will determine which one is the best fit during surgery. I hope to wait till after Christmas but may go sooner.
