I had aortic valve replacement 12 years ago and they put in a valve that was too small. However, it did the job, lasting 12 years. Last Nov I had my second valve put in with a larger one and an enlargement. I went to the Cleveland clinic for the second as it's a bigger deal the second time around. The first surgery was done locally in Syracuse, NY I'm doing well.
Ps also check out Sandra Wummer . She had a re do after only 12 weeks but is now celebrating her 1 year anniversary!!!

Ann Jackson Lynn,
You have warmed my heart with your kind words. I'm so glad to know someone who has walked this path. I pray you continue to do well. The book will be first on my list to read. Thank you so much for the info. Please keep me informed on how you're doing! Do you know why your valve failed?
My doctors said they don't know why mine developed scar tissue. Each patient is so different.
Yes I feel it will be tougher this time but you are very encouraging.
Take care
Ann

Hello Ann! Just had my re do 4 1/2 months ago . I'm 67 and same as you my first valve failed 2 1/2 years after I got it. Was really frightened the second time and someone on this sight suggested I read Robbie Benson's book " I'm Not Dead yet " he had 4 replacements and he's fine!!!
So take "heart" :) you'll be fine but I do find this time a bit more challenging to recover . But others haven't ... Read David Warner and there's a few others too. Yep it's a serious operation but it's miraculous too !! Thank goodness we have this option!!! My best wishes to you!!! Be sure to ask me anything but do remember each persons journey is a bit different but we all come out ok!!!

I am sorry the first valve didn't quite work, and hope the second go round does the trick. The fellow posting right above you, David Warner, is just being released from his second operation, first re-do, and another lady on this site is also scheduling a re-do, so I hope they will have more to offer you with their experience. I will be hoping for the very best outcome for you, and looking forward to hearing that you are on the road to recovery. I am six weeks out of my first AVR replacement.

Ann Jackson Eleanor,
Thank you so much for the message. I am going to read the other journals and know they will be helpful. Congratulations to you on your successful surgery. I remember the first month being really tough, then improvement came quite quickly after that. However, it was nearly a year before I felt back to my old self, so give yourself lots of time.
God bless you
Ann
