Thomas Brusstar That looks great to me. The top of my scar got really red and swollen all of a sudden after 1 week, and remained kind of bumpy up there for a long time. It eventually flattened out after months. I wouldn't worry about that.

Ann Crone Mine is red at the top as well, more red than yours. My surgeon's nurse told me that when the sternum is wired back together that the top portion tends to protrude for a little while, but it will go away with time.
Valerie Herndon-Vitarella Exactly how mine was. The redness and slightly raised area eventually goes away.

Rose Madura Hi Susan, I'd call your cardiologist to discuss. I was very symptomatic and had the winded feeling shortly after I arrived home. I ended up with excess fluid around the heart. I'm not saying you have that but don't ignore anything that seems odd. When you walked around at the hospital did you feel winded? If not, I'd definitely recommend discussing it with your cardiologist. Regarding the pounding, that's pretty common. At least it seems so. I think we just notice it because it is beating more strongly than before.

Mike Roskowinski Susan the heart pounding is very common. I am 3 months and I still notice it. Carlos in here said he asked his surgeon and a doctor and said it is also common because we have a new valve and we were used to just that little part of the old valve.

Susan Richards Thank you everyone! I'm especially thinking of those of you having surgery this week, as I am. I know that you're all out there having the same feelings I am this week. I've got your names and dates of surgeries written down on a piece of paper so while I'm in the hospital I can pray for each of you and check on your progress. Thinking of Adam Collins right now who is in surgery as we speak!
