Jeannette McLaughlin  I have almost reached the six-month mark and had an appointment yesterday with my surgeon, Dr. Hassan, via video conferencing. It took place at a hospital an hour away. The New Brunswick Heart Centre in Saint John, NB, Canada, where I had surgery on Sept. 28, 2016, is a four-hour drive, so thank god for technology!

I came well prepared with a list of questions and was glad to have this opportunity to get some answers. The report of the echocardiogram I had at the end of December shows that my bovine aortic valve is functioning normally (my ascending aorta was also replaced with a homograft). I’ve been feeling great since the surgery and was glad to hear that all is well in the heart department. I didn’t participate in a Cardiac Rehab program, but have been going to a gym for two months.

Those with dogs or cats know that pet therapy is the best remedy to heal a “broken” heart! I had to leave my companions with a petsitter for close to a month and longed to see them. What a joy it was to reunite with Max and Timote (on the right) two weeks exactly after my surgery, even if only for a short while. A picture is worth a thousand words…and this one is no exception!

Jeannette McLaughlin  I don't know what Stacey's post is doing on mine (as well as on other posts). Does anyone know how I can remove it? Thanks.

Jeannette McLaughlin  I think you're right Civita 'cause Stacey doesn't have a heart story like ours. Hers is related to a broken heart that was later fixed. I sent a note to Adam.

Ben Hyman  I just sent Adam an email regarding this scammer. Really annoying when trying to recover from surgery

Nancy Lewis  Ooooh, you just want to hug them, and I bet they both want to sit on your lap at the same time. hehe

Jeannette McLaughlin  Yes, Nancy, they wanted to climb on my knees; I had to do karate moves with my cushion! I'm looking forward to having them home and laugh at their silly antics. Max and Timote were both adopted (rescused, in a way) and I feel blessed to have them in my life!

James Waller  I had pretty much the same procedure on this past June 7th. Except I had my aortic valve replaced with a mechanical valve (an On-X valve) and had a graft on my ascending aorta.
I'm finishing up a cardiac rehab program and otherwise life is back to normal. I hope your recovery goes smoothly and you resume your life as it was before - or better.

Jeannette McLaughlin  Thanks! James, glad to hear you're doing well after a double procedure similar to mine (I still have to wrap my head around the pacemaker!) Judging from my rapid progress, I expect to go back to normal life sooner than later, but I won't rush anything...one day at a time. I was told I could do cross-country skiing at the start of the season, but just to be on the safe side I'll wait until the beginning of next year (a 3-month+ recovery).
