Hi Tee, I have a ST Jude valve since 2010. I want to say the tramadol I take for other aches makes me restless also. I suggest you don’t take it at night. In the morning it gives me a boost just a half tablet. Then same in afternoon. So the side effects of this drug I believe is your sleep disturbance. It gives me energy after 1-2 hrs of taking then decreases after 4-5 hrs. Doing well but don’t think I can hop on the horse again.

Tee Ad Thanks. I stopped the amiodarone after surgery. Just saw my internist and she didn’t see anything worrisome. Today I see the pulmonologist about the fluid around my lungs.

Hi Tee Ad my fellow Marylander! Praying for a successful surgery for you today and a complete and total recovery afterwards. I had mitral valve repair surgery on November 19, 2018 at University of Maryland Medical Center in downtown Baltimore. I'm now about 7 1/2 weeks post op and getting better each day God gives to me. Stay strong. You're in good hands at the Cleveland Clinic. I look forward to you posting on here once you are on the recovery side. Peace and blessings to you my fellow Heart Warrior!

Tee Ad I’m home! Surgery was more extensive than expected 3 valves and a maze procedure. I’m exhausted! I had pleural effusion after surgery so going to pulmonologist today about that.

Mitral issues run in my family too. My sister had hers replaced 7 weeks before my surgery. I was lucky enough to have mine repaired. She’s 71 and I’m 54. I’m almost 8 weeks post op. So far so good with no complications. You’ll be on the recovery side before you know it.

Tee Ad Lisa, congrats on getting your surgery and having a successful recovery! Did you have the traditional sternotomy or robotic? I'm so curious what the first couple of weeks after surgery is like--do you feel like eating, getting off the couch, etc or is it like having the flu and you are in pain and exhausted?

Tee Ad Thanks all! I'm glad that this isn't optional for me, cause right about no I would be saying "no thanks! " I caught a cold over the holidays that I'm still fighting, but the CC nurses says that's fine--they can still do the operation. I just wish I was going into it healthier, but there's never a "perfect" time for such things.

Rob Sparling Super great that you are being transparent with them and helping them stay current with you. The dialogue matters and they will be just as responsive on the help line after surgery and well into recovery. Totally understand the “no thanks” sentiments! Ride the waves you can’t control! Hi Tee-one thing for certain is you found an awesome surgeon! Dr. Gillinov repaired my mitral valve on 11/26. He used a robotic procedure. Everything went pretty smoothly and I'm about 30 days into my recovery. For me, the recovery has taken a bit longer than I anticipated. The Cleveland Clinic is top notch and you will have excellent care! Hope you have a great Christmas!

Brian Havlin Everyone is different. I’m six weeks now and feel a lot better. For me most of it was mental. I think the Metoprolol held me back. Made me light headed and lack of energy. I scaled back the dose and am tolerating it better. Should be back to working out soon. You’ll be fine. Not much pain. Managed the pain with Tylenol.
