Robert D'Aurora Hi Phyllis -am doing well, getting better each week. It sounds like you are doing well too, which is good to hear. I am still waiting to get into cardio rehab, hopefully will start soon after the holidays. Started jogging very slowly this week, heart felt good, but my legs were quite sore the next day. It felt great to be outside. Take care. Happy New Year!

Phyllis Petersen Happy New Year to you and yours too! The legs are definitely a sticking point. After my hike on Thursday, they felt like jelly. If I hadn't been outdoors and enjoying myself, no way I could have done that much. Then, rehab in the morning and I had to have them up for awhile before I could do anything more. It's annoying having to wait for rehab. I had hoped to get more sessions in before the end of the year, especially since I left CC with my referral and clearance after two weeks. Unfortunately, insurance slows these things down. Plus, my cardiologist was out-of-town when I called. Then, later, he went over to India. He's good , but extremely busy.

Hi Robert, Congratulations on your successful heart surgery. I cook low-sodium meals for a family member who also had MV repair surgery last year. Foods with lower (or no) sodium include: fresh vegetables, fresh fish, pasta or rice, can serve with olive oil, balsamic vinegar or Mrs. Dash seasonings. Oven baking fresh chicken breast with olive oil and using Mrs. Dash (no salt) seasonings (variety of flavors); fresh vegetables on romaine lettuce for salad, using red wine balsamic vinegar and olive oil as a dressing. Onion, garlic, and lemon or lime, and spices like rosemary provide flavor with minimal sodium. Martins Potato bread has lower sodium. Snacks include no salt peanuts and almonds and other nuts, dried fruit, some granola bars, Kashi Cinnmon Harvest cereal. We also found that eating lot of high potassium foods (1200-1400 mg) seemed to help minimize heart flutters, but it can take about two days to start helping... bananas, raw spinach, potatoes, sweet potatoes. Magnesium supplements (400 mg) also helped for migraines, and I think also for heart flutters. Best wishes for a full recovery! God bless you! Maria C.
