Laurel Howard-Boardman MyPCP told me it's been many years since she saw a serious surgery such as mine. She said most surgeries are done as minimally invasive these days. She said the 'insult' to my entire system is so much more severe than is commonly seen now. She understand the reasoning, given the increased stroke risk. She said I will take a long time to heal.

Rose Madura Laurel, our bodies take a beating during OHS. I had a lot of complications post op and was re-hospitalized 4 times and spent a total of 24 days in the hospital. I guess some of us are more susceptible than others to complications. It was about three months until I felt that I turned a corner. God bless you and praying for you to feel better soon.

Laurel Howard-Boardman I mistakenly expected concern about my surgical complications after I left Cleveland to return to WI. I hoped the side effects would subside but was re-hospitalized locally after a day and 1/2. Attempts to communicate with the surgeon were referred to an RN group for response. A local cardiologist said the procedure was well done. I was to have returned to the CC for follow up but seeing the surgeon was not included. I was told I could get follow up care where ever I wished. Under the circumstances, I chose local follow care. My mitral valve repair surgery took place on Nov 1. I am in cardio rehab now but am still having problems with shortness of breath with very minor exertion and chest pains. The chest pains developed following my release from the local cardio hospital unit, while on an in home care program. No chest pains or this level of shortness of breath pre surgery. Wish this was a more positive update. Cardiologist visit tomorrow.

Hi Laurel ,
I hope the symptoms start to improve / subside . I know you ‘ll be feeling frustrated , worried and very tired . Have you spoken to the local cardiologist ‘s secretary to try and get an appointment . If you can get over on your side slightly or stand up regularly to relief the pressure on your butt , to help heal the pressure sores . I ‘m glad the nurse is visiting , that will make a difference .

Laurel Howard-Boardman Yes, Dr Gillinov did visit after surgery. The airport transfers weren't real reliable. Long, hard day getting home. Arrhythmias and shortness of breath led to hospitalization back home. Idlppn hospital now.

Laurel Howard-Boardman Released home on meds and O2 Nov 17. In home care. 2 visits with myPCP and a cardiologist appt this week. Homebound other than medappts so far. Have a medical appt w/ my neurologist inMilw (100 miles each way with a long hospital walk on Dec 13. Somewhat concerned about this. Breathing and stamina are problems. Moving more in the house. Cold here in WI

Laurel Howard-Boardman On the daily hospital visitation by Dr. Gillinov post surgery, while I was hospitalized at the CC, I saw him briefly, I believe twice. He works with a team and one or two of them were the more frequent visitors. I was inpatient from Nov 1 - 9.
