Louis Latino Hello, new to this site. I was pacing the hallways in the hospital 3 days post op. Couldn't wait to get going. Had a small issue with fluid around the heart,but once it was drained all was much better. Get a fitbit and track your steps and heart rate. Makes it fun and it's good to know what the new ticker is doing in there.
How long have you've been post op? I was a gymnut before surgery ,so I'm just starting to get back into it. Starting cardiac rehab through my hospital tomorrow. Should be interesting.

Bob Fessler I will be two weeks postop on Friday. My pedometer said 3.4 miles walked yesterday. But other than 3 short walks to the corner at the bottom of our street (down hill, then uphill back), most of the walking was in my yard and house. I think I need to exrend my walks to get full benefit.

Eric Linnenburger Thanks so much, Ursula! I feel very fortunate to be progressing like I am. It hasn't all been easy. Recovery the first couple of weeks were amazing, but things have slowed down some in recent weeks. Nothing bad, just a little slower than in the beginning. I think we all recover at our own pace and have ups and downs. I'm doing formal cardiac rehab now and the structure has been great. I would just encourage everyone to stay positive, listen to their bodies, and focus on their own recovery. Everyone's situation is different and they should embrace the pace that works for them. Congratulations on your speedy recovery! The Cleveland Clinic is a wonderful place. I went there (from Colorado) in 2010 to have a AVR. Had surgery Friday afternoon and got out of the clinic on Monday and flew home on Tuesday. Completely uneventful recovery. Most painful part was when I change the bandage using that innocuous looking tape they sent you home with. I applied too much and when it came time to remove it, I thought I would die! Dumb me... Anyway, have a great recovery and a bright life ahead!

Dearest Eric, Thoughts and prayers to you and your family. So glad to hear how strong and young you are. It's been a year for me since my tissue AV replacement, minimally invasive. I wish for you the same new health and outlook I now have. It seems each week brings new advancements to this surgery to make it easier. You are going to be a mentor for those coming behind you. I had a very difficult repair (Barlow's Pathology) & went to a high volume surgeon (a surgeon who does 200-400 operations a year in your heart speciality). I'm glad you checked out your options & decided to go to a top surgeon. You will definitely have a greater chance for a repair! Prayers are with you!

Just read your story. So sorry you have to go through this at such a young age. I am 63 yo and 12 weeks past AVR and ascending aneurysm repair (another bonus from my BAV) . Best of luck with your consult at CC , and I hope they can repair your valve. It is a big surgery, but you are in great shape and will do well. You will find lots of helpful information on this site.
