Hello Diane,

I had a mitral valve repair, and had thought the tricuspid valve might also be repaired, due to regurgitation, but in the end, just had the mitral valve done. Hope others may be able to answer your questions.
Jennifer John Hi, Diane. I also had a mitral valve repair, with a maze procedure as well.

Anna Jones Hi Diane, I also had a mitral valve repair. Like Bonnie, it I might have needed a tricuspid valve repair but in the end I didn't. I, too, was widowed young. Please accept my condolences. It just makes everything all the harder. You will find many people on this site who will be happy to answer questions, and if you would like, please feel free to send me a message.

Rita Savelis Diane, I'm glad you were able to have your tricuspid repaired at the same time as your mitral. My surgeon went ahead and did an unplanned repair on my tricuspid (after seeing it) while doing replacements of my mitral and aortic valve. He said that this is often done now. Take care Diane.

Diane Hansen Thank you for welcoming me! I’m wondering what the healing time is for the tricuspid valve. I was not aware that the combination of mitral/tricuspid valves is rare and have already had my Coumadin discontinued by my local cardiologist when my surgeon said to stay on it for 1year. I’m confused.

Susan Lynn Diane - Healing time can vary from person to person and by procedure. It's key to discuss with your surgeon and to do your research. Many, not all, of us who had minimally invasive procedures seem to have had some quicker recoveries. It's a very individual choice and not available for all patients. Whatever you choose, preparation before can be helpful and ease some of the routine burdens while you're healing. If you have a person or two you can count on for the first couple of weeks, that can be very helpful.
Don't be surprised that you're getting conflicting information from your cardiologist and surgeon. I had one of those moments myself. Medicine is not an exact science and physicians may not always agree. You will need to make your own decision about your treatment and care. You may also need to change cardiologists and/or surgeons before the process is over. You are the one in control. You are the one who holds all the decision-making power. You're going to be fine.
