Charolotte - I was also caught very much by surprise with my mitral valve regurgitation diagnosis last summer. I had a TEE, cardiac scoring, and cardiac cath that all turned out fine. Two months ago, I had a mini-thoractomy with Dr. Scott Goldman just outside of Philadelphia. Short hospital stay, almost no pain, minimal scaring, and quick recovery. Everyone's situation is different, but I personally think the key is getting the repair sooner rather than later, if possible, and finding a surgeon who is very experienced.

I finally met with my surgeon in Boston and feel really good about him, but unfortunately said I am not able to have a minimally invasive procedure. So this is what I'm preparing myself for.
