I am betting you will be amazed at how good you will feel when you wake up and realize it is behind you and how quickly you will recover. It has been said hundreds of times on this site, but it is true - the anticipation is the worst part of all this.

Hey Charlie, thanks for sharing your story. I find that it helps to connect with others in similar situations. I had a valve repair in 2010 and was nearly devastated when a recent echo revealed that the valve was leaking again. I guess we all have to be thankful for innovative advancements in technology and surgical procedures that enable us to be healed. Feel free to reach out if you need to talk or have any questions about your surgery etc.

Hello Charlie! I also live in FL and had AVR on 2/4/22. I had mine done in Nashville TN and told my doctor on consult day… if I don’t feel comfortable about this visit, I will be headed to Cleveland Clinic… he replied, I completely understand. Come to find out he did his residency there and the rest is history. It is such a blessing these surgeries can take place and give us a great quality of life. I have had no issues this far and feel much better than I did. It funny, I didn’t realize how bad I felt until I started recovering. Just stay positive and do exactly what they tell you. You will do great. All the years of monitoring has led you to here… you will have many more great years ahead! My surgeon told me that if people would just pay attention to their symptoms 98% of all ❤️ issues can be fixed when caught early! Awesome!

Hi Charlie, and welcome to the group. Although it's a bit shocking to see your picture under "upcoming surgeries" (too late to back out, haha), you can rest in the assurance that you've chosen an excellent hospital and a have a great surgeon in Dr. Johnston. I had two valves repaired at CC at the end of January with Dr. Gillinov and had such excellent care there. The travel from Texas presented no problems and I've had an easy and smooth recovery. My whole experience was very manageable and not nearly as bad as I had anticipated. Wishing you the best with your surgery. We're cheering for you!

If you haven't read it, I recommend George Gardopee's chronicle of his mitral/tricuspid surgery in November at CC. Although different valves and a different surgeon than yours, his detailed accounting of events was very helpful to me prior to surgery. Charlie Geer Thanks Adam. We are very happy with Dr Johnston and everyone at Cleveland Clinic. Many thanks to you for confirming that to me and for "putting in a good word" with him. Everyone at Cleveland has all the credentials you could ask for and they are the most helpful medical people I have ever experienced. I am just trying to wrap my head around the fact that I am now the top member listed on the upcoming surgeries. I guess this is really happening.
