Hello! My name is Dr. Douglas Johnston and I am a cardiac surgeon having graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1998. I believe my greatest strength is that I am passionate about getting the best possible outcome for my patients.
What I love about heart surgery is that every day we have the ability to make a major difference in people’s lives. Every patient has different needs and wants, and having heart surgery means very different things. For one patient, the goal may be living longer to be around for their grandchildren. For another, it might be feeling healthy enough to get on their mountain bike again.
We need to understand what our patients’ needs are and be able to give them the safest, best operation that gets them back to the life THEY want to lead. That’s what keeps me coming to work every morning.

"All I can say about Dr. Johnston is that he is heaven sent. My care was handled with compassion, confidence, care and respect. He was confident and reassuring during my consultation with him. He answered all my questions and took some unscheduled time to meet with me since I was only there for a 1 day consultation from California. "

"Easily understood and to the point. Commando procedure with aortic and mitral valve replacement with tissue valves. Pacemaker required after procedure. Radiation heart disease from cancer treatment 40 years earlier. Looking forward to playing with my 6 month old grandson and taking him fishing someday!"

I was not particularly high risk and would have been fine as a 45 year old at a center back in Washington, DC but felt better going to Dr. Johnston. I would strongly suggest if you can to go to Dr. Johnston."

Dr. Johnston saved my life. And, Adam gave me the plan and courage to make it happen. God Bless. Do not be afraid of a second opinion. It may very well be the opinion that will save your life!
Volume and numbers do matter. A year ago I couldn't push a vacuum. Today, I am on a trampoline with my 5 year-old grandson."
