Hi Chad, I noticed your message on another thread and wanted to let you know that a Ross procedure is not off the table for you because of where you live necessarily. I was originally going to get the Ross after finding out about it from this community—I started doing... Read more.

Thanks Sue, I appreciate the advice!! I did some research and found that Dr. Daniel Wong at the Royal Columbian Hospital in Burnaby does perform the procedure. I may ask my cardiologist about being referred to him for a second opinion. It’s really tough to choose the right valve to... Read more.

Hi Chad. I was like you, I was doing great but started to notice some of my cross fit workouts were harder than normal. Visit to the family Dr, heard the murmer, off to the cardiologist where he said "we won't need to operate for a few years..." and everything... Read more.

That’s great to hear! Thanks for reaching out Scott! I’m happy to hear you got back to your CrossFit! I don’t know lots about the Ross as procedure and I’m leaning toward a mechanical valve because of my age and the longevity of the On-X valve but I’m worried about... Read more.

Chad I have a St Jude regent valve and target valve 2,4 +/-0,4 but from what i have read the On-X should hav an even lower target value —> less blood thinner.

My older brother had a mechanical installed about 20 years ago, and he'll be doing for a re-do because of some tissue encroaching. When I looked into the data, the reoperation rates on mechanical are higher than I expected. Doing lots of research and getting several professional opinions based on... Read more.

It’s definitely a hard decision, lots to consider and lots of research to do! It’s great to have all the advice!

Hey Chad, if you're considering the Ross procedure, you really need to do much more thorough research. It’s a far more complex surgery, and the long-term outcomes aren't as clear-cut as they are with mechanical valves. Plus, since it involves a full sternotomy, the recovery process is longer. Honestly, I’m... Read more.

Ya unfortunately after searching and searching for the right choice I keep coming back to the OnX mechanical valve. I’ve found good info from a lot of different threads out there where people have reports doing great after having the mechanical put in and they reported that they just get... Read more.

Hi As you now I have a mechanical valve a St Jude regent aortic and of course I would have liked to avoid the bloodthinners as well. The surgeons really did not recommend me for the Ross procedure and it is not that common even if they do it even... Read more.
