Hi Bob. My battery is running low so this message will be short. Igope you understand.
Are you saying your lack of change is shape regardless is to do with your heart issues.
My gp sent me for tests bcos no matter I do I can’t change shape and it woukld appear my aortic valve is in a severe condition. Would this be my problem?

Bob Gillespie I wouldn't be the right person to make that call Susan, definitely a Dr. question. It does affect your blood flow and therefore your oxygen levels so I would think there could be a co-relation. At the very least it could keep you from exercising to the point you need to be.

Bob Gillespie Thank you for the compliments Leslie. I think the first time I slept on my side was about day 7, just a couple of days after I came home.(One of my ICU nurses had bribed me to eat on the first day by offering to help me sleep on my side, but I got moved to step down before he could do it.) By the second day home I was back in my bed. I only had to set it up in a way to keep my cats from climbing on me.
I didn't really experience a lot of pain until this week when I must have overdone it and developed a sore sternum, but even that wasn't what I consider real pain. All of the fears and worries were just that, and now a distant memory.

Leslie Bakos God bless you Bob. I have a huge hernia about 5 cm...Umbilical hernia. How will this affect my core after surgery...I have lost a hell of a lot of weight all my chest muscle and back muscle. I am kind of weak...,I am taking Elquis for A fib as I went to afib shortly after I was diagnosed last month, I am hoping it is the cause...I am really so happy you are doing well.

Bob Gillespie I don't know about your hernia, although I had one myself when I was a toddler. I would recommend you talk to your Dr. and maybe the Cardiac Rehab unit. Personally, by my recent experience, there shouldn't be much of any difference after you surgery than before. I too worried about how much mobility I would lose following the surgery and it really wasn't any. Just not using my arms to raise myself up is all.

Congratulations Bob. I am two weeks since my surgery and know how "cranky"is. Also with hurricane Irma, a bit of added stress. My street was flooded and it's so hot, without electric and air conditioning.....Yuk! Doctor appointments have all been pushed back but visiting nurses have been coming to monitor everything. Started walking at the local mall where there is A/C and should suffice until I get marching orders from the Doc.
Hang in there and know you're in our thoughts and prayers for a full, speedy recovery.

Laura Dirico Oh Bill I can't imagine going through that too.

Congratulations Bob! Wonderful story! You and I were on parallel tracks -- I had OHS to replace my aortic valve earlier this summer. I thought I looked good 48 hours after the procedure! ha ha. So wonderful that you've gone through it and are back home and on the road to recovery. Best wishes to you and to the other posters here, as well, having gone through the process I feel like I am part of a family and club. Kudos to Adam one more time for setting up this site.

Hello Bob and Group! My prayers are with you all. I am new at this in the last several years ...having a heart disease. History. Diabetes, insulin dependent 33 years, 3 Stents four months ago in my LAD. Mitral Valve leak and small vessel disease mostly blocked. I read the surgeons ( the cardio vascular surgeon from Mt Sanai) report that sooner is better than later for repair or replacement. I wish I could find his name again! My symptoms are breathing difficulty almost always but especially if walking or even resting, tired, chest pain and pressure and a few more. And a particularly odd feeling as if butterflies were flitting in my chest! Tonight as two weeks ago I experienced chest pressure with a gripping tightness in the center of my chest. Then my right arm ached and the right side of my jaw and teeth. I figure if the right side it's ok. Any advice out there. I'm scared. Lastly, how do I check to see if comments or communication happens with me? Thank you.

Bob Gillespie Hi Mamie. Welcome to the group! I believe the surgeon you are trying to think of is Dr. Alan Stewart. Look through the video section or the surgeon finder. If you look up to the top corner of the heartvalvesurgery.com page you should see your name, News and a heart. Click on your name and it will show you everything you have posted. And it's perfectly ok to be scared, if you weren't I'd be worried.

Hello Bob, I have a porcine valve and doing wonderful. I had an Aortic Root and Valve Replacement and will be approaching my two year anniversary on Oct 9, 2017. Choose the valve that is right for you and consult with your surgeon. My lifestyle hasn't changed just take 81 MG Aspirin on a daily basis. I do exercise on a daily basis and take care of my salt intake. When I was diagnosed 3 years ago I did my research and I was fully prepared to pick my tissue valve. Good luck with your decision. You can read my journal and guestbook as you will find valuable information.

Bob, you and I are about the same age ,I'm 56 and I also take 100 mg Zoloft and need Aortic valve replacement . Do you feel the Zoloft causrs Heart palpitations or irregular beats ? I do. And did you decide on a artificial or bio valve ? Due to my age dr said probably artificial but it's up to me. I can't handle the idea of the clicking noise and lifetime cumadin. Thoughts ?
