My daughter was diagnosed with rheumatic fever at the age of 12. She developed mitral valve regurgitation. Recently, Dr. Adams did a repair on her valve 10 years after her diagnosis . She was asymptomatic with moderate regurgitation. The surgery has gone well. She is 5 weeks post-op and feels good although she tires easily. I was distressed by the lack of psychological understanding and support she received from the surgical team and the nurses. Although the most important work, so far, seems to have gone very well, her recovery was more traumatic because the team made light of the difficulty of recovery.
