Lynne,
I had surgery with Dr. Adams for mitral repair 3/2/10. I also had a daughter who had open heart surgery as a child, so I can understand your pain as a parent. I had a very positive experience at Mt. Sinai. It is true that Dr. Adams does not visit often, and leaves that to his team. I met Dr. Chikwe before the surgery and she was fantastic, and the team I met were very professional and caring. I have nothing but praise for my experience. Have you called and told Dr. Adam\'s your disappointment in your daughter\'s treatment? I would express this to them, and I am shocked by your experience since mine was totally opposite.

Hi Lynne Reitman,
Glad all is going well for your young daughter. Can\'t fathom how I\'d deal with a little one of my own and heart surgery, but know I would. Interesting words regarding psychological support. I relate to \"old farts\", the group I belong to, and what I\'ve read about adults with having heart surgery and the possible need for psychological support, different for each person. Adam Pick pointed out how cardiac rehab benefits adults. I hope you have read his book. I\'ve had cardiac rehab and about to have it again. I\'ve never seen a child there. Hmmmmmm, never thought about it. I have a hunch Sarah Weir\'s mom is on top of it, another jounrnal member. What I do know, though, is you, and whatever support members you have, are your daughters best advocates, and you have to research, research, research. My kid, now 32 or 33 years old is having some health difficulty and seems she needs a \"Dr House\" (you know, like on TV), to figure out what her issue is. She\'s in Vt, and it won\'t take much more of not knowing what is wrong before I\'ll be there to help take care of her. I melted when she had her tonsil surgery when she was a little girl. I still have to make sure she is OK and get what she needs. I\'m saying, I will advocate for her to ensure she gets what she needs. If you go to www.ironheartracing.com, on the right side of the home page you will find some links to heart issue organizations under \"Our Charities\", or something like that. There are two or three or the organizations that are specically for mended little hearts. Check them out and see if any can be of help for you. Best to you and your young one.
