Hi all a follow up to my post from Tuesday, saw her cardiologist yesterday who is also a electrophysiologist, she implanted a dual chamber pacemaker after my dual valve surgery in March, while downloading the pacemaker to see the heart activity they could find the number of events of heart racing but not how high the rate got, they gave me a 24 hour halter to wear and thinking about putting me back of coumadin or digoxin based on the results of the halter, it sounds like rapid beats is common after valve surgery, any thoughts or similar stories would be appreciated

Rita Savelis Yes, this is common (a "side effect "of OHS) and betablockers are often prescribed to slow down the heart. I was told it was "safe" for me to stop betablockers as long as I was on an anticoagulant (for my mechanical valves). So I live with a fast heartbeat, hoping it will eventually slow down...

Sharon had surgery on 3/8 with numerous complication, her recovery has been amazing, just one question/concern her legs are still swelling after surgery, they have her on water pills with only minimal improvement, they did an echo last week and the valve is functioning well, any thoughts why the legs would still be swelling, I thought that would be addressed with new valve

Kenny Knox It took me almost 2 months to losee all the water weight after my most recent surgery. Ithe was all in my legs and thighs. If all checks out with the echo, I'd say you're good. May not hurt to double up on your water pills for a week. I'd check with your docs first.

Mary Wagner I had the same thing - gained 11 pounds in 2 days. They tried 1 Lasix, then 2 lasix with no results. Then they switched to bumetanide. One pill did nothing so they had me double it and 2 days later all the water and weight was gone. An Easter miracle! Now I can walk better and it has stayed off but now my potassium is low so check with doctor before doubling on your own.

Wanda Mroz I gained 15 lbs due to fluids. When I came home after 10 days I still had fluid retention. It takes time to lose it all. I was told to limit salt and drink fluids to flush it put. Also moving helps. I was on lasix for about 5 days but then discontinued. Dr didn't want any complications with lasix... It can cause kidney issues if taken for too long.
