AVR Bovine 2 months ago today. Totally healed without complications. I am doing anything I want and working out in the gym, including weights. I feel like nothing ever happened. I wish this for the rest of you. I had surgery at Scripps La Jolla by Dr Stahl. I want to thanks everyone on this site who helped me prepare and encouraged me those first weeks post op when I was hurting.

Marie Myers Amen, Sister! I am 8 months post AVR, aneurysm resection and root replacement. I am feeling very well, and other than seeing my scar, it seems like nothing happened.. I, too, wish an easy recovery for everyone in the waiting room...It is good to encourage those waiting.

Leslie Bakos Hi Sandra, I live alone as well. I am not sure....I am pretty ill from all the meds I am taking and have lost a lot of weight. I am not even scheduled for surgery yet. I think that cooking and shopping could be a problem and I maybe having a friend there for at least a week would be nice. Depression is also a factor. I am not the norm though as I just found out I had heart disease in August and I am falling a part. God bless you!!!

Phyllis Petersen I, too, live alone, but I have family and friends nearby. I was fortunate to have a cousin less than an hour and a half from the hospital, so I was able to stay there for a little over a week after the hospital before flying home. I did need help with grocery shopping and other places that required driving. Of course, I couldn't do anything too heavy at first. I have a washer and dryer in my apartment and was able to regular wash, so long as I was careful. I didn't, however, have a sternotomy, but minimally-invasive side-entry, which makes a difference too. You will have more limitations on lifting. Do you have people nearby who can stop in and help a little?

Kenneth Hart I can't speak for aortic valve replacement, but for my mitral valve repair a week was sufficient for having someone there to assist with bandages, drinks and meals. Make sure that the person that is with you is aware of the post op recommendations so they can also keep you accountable for any medications and exercises.

Laura Jacobs I had an aortic valve replacement and aneurysm repair. It would have found it very difficult to be alone during the first couple weeks. I would recommend you find someone to help, or seek an alternative place to go if at all possible. Good luck with this.

Sandra Hinesly Thanks, lots to think about. I will have to hire someone to come in for a week. I have planned for meals on wheels and using uber so that is covered. My doc said I will be really weak the first few weeks but have never been weak in my life. I was fine 2 months ago and am still adjusting to all this but ready to get on with it. I am seeing a surgeon today to help the team decide weather TAVR OR OTHER. THANKS AGAIN!
Phyllis Petersen Good luck with the decision process! There's so much to process in a very short time.
Sandra Hinesly Still no decision on my surgery until I have the cardiac cath on Oct.4. This is getting real.
Leslie Bakos I know how you feel Sandra,,,,I am praying for you....
