I just had a conversation with the staff person in Dr. Gilinov's office about the COVID-19 protocol in the hospital. My understanding is that the surgeons and the staff in the operating rooms are not required to be vaccinated or tested - they simply need to have taken & passed a temperature test and wear a mask during surgery.

Those who have chosen not to be vaccinated, however, have assumed a calculated risk of a more significant reaction if they contract it. If you're vaccinated, you have taken the currently available precaution to minimize a reaction. I think all healthcare facilities are far more vigilant about reducing all forms of hospital-related infections. You are probably safer now than before COVID. All the best to you!

Marie Myers Yes, that is what is done many places. I work in an outpatient surgery center, and we have even dropped the temp check for staff. We do Not test the majority of our patients for Covid and have never tested staff. What you are seeing is not unusual.

I'm interested in chatting with someone who has had a mitral valve repair done by Dr. Gillinov @ the Cleveland Clinic. I'm from out-of-state and am scheduled for surgery in mid-January 2022 and would like to chat with someone who has gone through a similar experience. I've been told that from my test, he believes I can have minimally invasive, robotic surgery done.

Ginny Turner Hi Sally. I'm also scheduled for surgery with Dr. Gillinov in January - mine is on the 6th. I'm having mitral and tricuspid repair. I've been told it will most likely be a full sternotomy incision since he's repairing two valves. I live in Texas, so will be traveling for the surgery, too. It's good to meet another patient of Dr. Gillinov's, and great to read all the praise from his former patients. I know we're in good hands!
