Will make my story brief and hopefully not too confusing. Had TAVR done in October 2020. On the 30 day post TAVR echo it showed a moderate peri-valvular leak. Knew this was a good chance of happening due to the amount of calcification around my valve. Regardless, I entered cardiac rehab and started to feel better. The shortness of breath was slowly improving and I was able to do things I haven't been able to do for a long time. After 13 sessions it was like I hit the wall again. SOB returned big time along with dizziness and fatique. I was diagnosed with anemia with pretty low lab values. I did have a colonoscopy and upper endoscopy since I developed signs of a bleed when on Coumadin for a couple weeks post TAVR. Had some old polyps in colon and 2 old ulcers in my distal esophagus but no signs of active bleeding. My cardiologist has referred me to a CV surgeon to evaluate my case to see if I am a candidate for open heart surgery to replace TAVR valve and my original valve and remove calcification and place a new biologic valve in. Not looking forward to this but currently my quality of life is not too good. Also seeing a hematologist for the anemia but have only seen him once so far and he ordered more lab tests. My question is if there is anyone else out there with similar issues and if so what course of treatment did you receive and was that successful? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Nancy W So sorry to hear about your issues. I had mitral valve repair in August 2020 and suffered from fatigue and low energy for a while until blood work revealed anemia. I’ve been on iron supplements since and slowly improving. I’ve not had to reconsider surgery but I can empathize with the low quality of life when feeling this way. Hope you get answers soon and a treatment plan that feels right for you.
