Hi Everyone…..Pam Casey here. I’m wondering if anyone else is feeling like I do? My aortic valve was replaced on 7-27-23….and I’m10 months into recovery. I was 71 when I had my surgery. For the past 2 months, all I want to do is sleep…..day and night. I just recently got my drivers license back, not having it for over a year, and am sure that was adding to my being depressed. Now that I have my license back, the depression should lighten up. I am on antidepressants. I’ve lost my get up and just do it magic too…..Help….Anyone Else?

Suelynn Hanegraaf Hi Pam! Are you on any ♥️ meds? I found Metropolol (beta blocker) prescribed after both of my aortic valve replacements (2/2011 and 4/2024) caused "low feelings", and low blood pressure (like 90/60) causing tiredness. You may want to report your symptoms to your cardiologist?

Rita Savelis I'm sorry to hear you're feeling depressed Pam. Metropolol also made me feel very low and I felt better when I no longer had to take it. I was tired for a long long time after heart surgery. Feeling depressed after surgery is very very common. I hear you. It's hard. I talked to a therapist and also took meds. After all that you have been through physically, you still have to process emotions. Make sure to let your doctors know how you feel. Take care. It gets better.

Kevin McCarthy Metropol when I was on it for a fib pre-surgery made me ready to nap at any second. My cardiologist put me on diltiazem to manage the heart rate. I don’t know if that also deals with blood pressure.

Yumiko Ishida Try not to should yourself, Pam. There’s not always an explanation for the way you feel, and that’s ok. You’re not the same person you were before surgery. Life goes on, and sometimes that’s depressing. Talking to a therapist has helped me, but I assume you are already doing that, since you are on antidepressants.
