Had a mitral repair seven years ago and it’s back to leaking. It looks like I may be looking at a second OHS. This is as terrifying as the first.
Daisy Tanner Oh dear! Praying for the success of your second surgery.
Rose Madura Oh no. What has your cardiologist said?

Susan Lynn Oh, Nancy. I'm sorry to hear that. Did you have symptoms or was the leak detected via some other method? Did your cardiologist provide a reason for the failed repair? I was told it was a 'once-and- done' when I had my surgery. Please keep us posted.

Has anyone had an ablation after OHS and the maze procedure? I had OHS last year and back in afit, now they are talking about ablation. I thought the maze was supposed to take care of this and was better since the they were already in there.

Marie Myers On the Mayo Clinic website, it is stated that the success rate for the Maze procedure is 70-95 % effective in stopping a fib. It also states that 35% of patients having the Maze procedure will still need medication to control a fib. i would guess that most places share similar experience. I think the bottom line is the Maze procedure , like many surgical procedures ,are not 100% perfect. Hope you get the afib under control soon.

Barbara Wood Nancy, I had a maze along with a mitral repair 2 1/2 years ago that has so far been successful - no afib since. My surgeon told me there was about an 85o/o success rate. I was put on amiodorone a few weeks before surgery & kept on it for 6 months after, and I continue to take metoprolol- 12.5 mg/ day. There have definitely been a few people on here who have had ablations after a maze. Wishing you the best- keep us posted!
Nancy Takahashi Thank you Barbara! I was just hoping after surgery I be done with it.
