I had a TAVR in June ‘26 and ended up with sepsis and nearly died . Cardiac team said infections are common. Hard to believe. I’m on antibiotics forever. Anyone else and are they really that common

This is very important. It is essential that those of us who are having valve surgery get a dental clearance. If you have Traditional Medicare you know that dental is not covered EXCEPT when one needs to have dental work done for valve replacement.

I am not following when you say "EXCEPT when one needs to have dental work done for valve replacement" Why would you need dental work done for valve replacement? You should take antibiotics before dental work when you had a valve fix/replacement but I haven't heard of getting dental work... Read more.

Robert- If a person has heart surgery scheduled, Medicare will pay for dental work to take care of dangerous conditions in the mouth that would jeopardize a successful heart surgery outcome. Just taking antibiotics before heart surgery will not negate the dangerous effects of extremely bad dental health.

Ok, I misunderstood this. I was referring to REGULAR dental work AFTER heart surgery. I have to take antibiotics each time I get dental cleaning done AFTER surgery. I have no idea what the protocol is about dental work BEFORE heart surgery and if they want you to take care... Read more.
