Anna Jones Hi Maya, welcome to the club :-)! This site is great for research and for getting your concerns addressed. Did your cardiologist say that you will definitely need surgery in the future, or is this a matter of it may never be needed if things don't change? Sending prayers and best wishes.

Phyllis Petersen Welcome Maya! It's good to stay on top of these things. As for the anxiety, it's a rare person who doesn't feel that when they first learn about valve issues, and then it'll get a bit worse when time comes for surgery. But the statistics are very good for positive outcomes and a return to your normal life when you finally do need a new valve.

maya stetter Hi Anna, yes she did say that at some point I will need to have replacement of the valve and repair of the aneurysm...but the problem is the not knowing when...it's really frustrating not knowing how things are progressing or not progressing with an echo only every 6 months...I feel things sometimes or am "hyper-aware" of everything ...

Kathy Blank Maya- this community will be so helpful. I had a heart murmur for 20 years and never expected to have a problem! I am also an avid runner and the desire to get back to running was very motivating during my recovery. Try and focus on the fact that you have discovered your heart issues before any damage and think about the amazing advances in medical technology that will help you return to full health! I am 15 mos post MV Repair and completes a half marathon about a year post op!

Marie Myers It is always a shock to hear something is wrong with your heart. I knew about my BAV for 40+ years. Then all of a sudden on a routine (every 4 yr echo,) I had a good size aneurysm!. I was spared the "watch and wait "routine, and went right to the "meet your cardiac surgeon" event. Either way, it is stressful. But I can testify that you CAN get through it, whatever it entails. Welcome to the club!

Sheri Driver I had the same thing, watched it for 7 years, then it became severe aortic stenosis. Ascending aneurysm 3.9. Went ahead and had the surgery even though I had no symptoms. Best thing I ever did! It's been 7 months and feeling great.
I had my aortic valve replaced almost 3 1/2 years ago. I too was an avid runner for most of my life, though I couldn't run at all in the last few months before surgery. Well, with the new bovine tissue valve I've been running again and do 35 to 40 miles most weeks. I was 59 1/2 when my valve was replaced.

Dawn Lorraine Hi Maya. I’m 54 and had the exact issue as you have. I had surgery 7 months ago. I was watched for about 7 years for the size of the aneurysm but it became time to repair as well as repair my aorta valve as it was very insufficient. I will have another surgery to replace the aorta valve when needed but my surgeon said mine was repairable. I lift weights and I was unable to continue lifting heavy with the size of the aneurysm.
