I was very scared about having open heart surgery when I learned about my aortic aneurysm. But if I wanted to live, I needed to go through it. The whole experience was not as difficult as I thought it would be. Lots of people have these surgeries every day. You can read some of these stories, and maybe convince him he can do it.

Kathleen - I had a different procedure, but like Marie, it wasn't nearly as difficult as I anticipated. Your husband might be a candidate for a less invasive form of surgery that some patients find preferable. Just be sure to do your research and get multiple opinions. By the time he gets all the information, he'll likely feel better about moving forward. Heart surgery has come a long way. You'll read success stories every day on this site. I concur. It is definitely scary but a journey we have all successfully taken. Do your research and get a second opinion if that will help. I did run into complications but I did two things....I trusted my doctors and I trusted God. Three plus years later, I feel great! Best wishes to both you and your husband.

I had a moo valve along with other repairs. I was afraid also but at the end of the day, gave it to God. So thankful for the support of my wife and friends. Seven months after and better every day. I'll say a prayer for Hector and you. What day and where?
