Hi Everyone, I am in the process of selecting a surgeon for an aortic valve replacement, for a severely stenotic bicuspid valve. We live in Northern California near John Muir hospital in Concord. Has anyone had AVR surgery at John Muir? Has anyone had surgery with Dr. Ramesh Veeragandham? Thanks!

Happy to share! I had surgery on August 6, 2018, so it has been a little over a year. I chose a tissue valve. It was a hard decision to make but I decided that I didn't want to be on blood thinners or to hear my heart beat with... Read more.
Kathleen, I also live in the JM service area, however when I looked at statistics as I was determining where to have my surgery, I found that Sequoia Hospital and Dr. Luis Castro have been doing valve surgeries much longer than JM and they have phenomenal results! Nothing against Dr.... Read more.
Thank you so much for your responses! I am definitely leaning towards Dr Castro & Sequoia. And thanks Judy regarding the information on the inspiris valve. How is your valve doing these days? Sounds like Ellen's is doing well. That is great news & very encouraging.
I just saw my cardiologist this last week and all is going well with me! The valve is doing perfectly, and I have been very lucky with my recovery. I had a couple of minor bouts of Afib in the hospital which is normal and I didn't even feel it.... Read more.
