My mitral valve repair, tricuspid repair, appendage clip and maze procedure was done on Tuesday.  I came home late Saturday.  Today I have a little pressure in my chest, some pain near the incision site near the underarm, breast. I do tire out but I am sure that will get better.



I am so impressed with my doctor, Dr. Mario Costillo-Sang. I saw him before the surgery and then again for the next 3 days every morning bright and early with a smile on his face.  He listens intently.  You can almost see his brain working as he takes it all in. I did have some terrible neck pain after laying on the table for four hours during surgery.  That lasted a day or two.  It was addressed and taken care of.  There is still some pressure in my chest but that seems to be getting better.



St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood, KY is a well-oiled machine. The hospital staff seem to love their jobs. So many people said they were working late but they didn't mind because they love their job.  Anything they could do to help they did.  My call bell never went unanswered for more than 5 minutes, usually they came right in. The nurses who work there are outstanding.  Each person did or said something for me that made me glad I went there.

Surgery Canceled! My surgery was scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 19th. I have a virus so have to re-schedule it. I know it's for the best but I am so disappointed. I wanted to start feeling better. The worst part is I will have to give myself the Lovanox shots again.

My surgery has been moved up to November 19th.  I thought I would be able to get more things done around the house before I had the surgery.  Glad to have an earlier date for surgery.  Trying to tie up loose ends, get my bag packed and remember 100 other things I have to do. Eight days until surgery.

I found a surgeon! I met with Dr. Castillo-Sang earlier this week. He spent time with me going over everything.  He told me of the risks associated with the surgery.  I am very confident in his ability as a surgeon, his expertise and knowledge.  I feel he wants the best outcome for me.  He listened to my concerns and answered everything I asked.  There is no ego with this doctor.

His assistant, Desiree has been on top of everything.  She is very courteous and a go-getter. Thank you to Adam for introducing us over email. My surgery date is the day after Thanksgiving, November 28, 2025.

I will be having mitral valve repair or replacement.  He is also doing a clip and the Maze procedure.  Prayers for the best outcome appreciated.
