"Dr. Sang, who I call "Super Mario", saved my life. Not only did he save my life but his minimally-invasive technique saved me months of recovery time.
Originally, he thought there were 3 tears in my mitral valve. There ended up being 11 and there was a small hole in my heart. Once he found that out, he reassessed the situation and decided he could still do the repair instead of having to replace my valve.
When I met him the first time, he spent 45 minutes with my wife and me. He explained everything to us and answered all of our questions. He has a great bedside manner! I highly recommend him to anyone needing heart surgery."

"When first diagnosed in hospital, the Head of the Cardiac department recommended that surgery had a very high risk of death (based on being 80 years old) and the hospital would not allow an operation to repair or fix my mitral valve. After further consultation with my heart doctor, he recommended Dr. Castillo-Sang be consulted.
Dr. Castillo-Sang reviewed my records and agreed to perform the operation. He performed a non invasive open heart surgery and replaced my mitral valve. The surgery went well and was accomplished with out breaking any bones. The surgery was even accomplished without me needing to take any pain medicine. Dr. Castillo-Sang closely followed my recovery from surgery and kept me fully informed as to my progress and what I needed to do after release from the hospital. In addition, he is a really nice and caring person. He made me feel secure during the entire process.
Dr. Castillo-Sang is a gifted and caring surgeon who is constantly trying to improve the methods and techniques to lower the risk of surgery and also to make the operation less intrusive on the patients body.
