Hello, Brothers & Sisters from all around the world.
I was diagnosed with Bicuspid Aortic Valve back 11 years ago and made the surgery with a biological Aortic valve. I was 23 at that time. Now at the age of 34, I do need to go for the operation again. I am confused a bit choosing between a tissue valve and a mechanical valve. I know the pros and cons of each one. But still not convinced with the idea of living on warfarin with my active type of business and lifestyle.
I would appreciate from brothers and sisters who are in the similar age range of mine or been on warfarin for a long time to get in touch with me. Nothing will be more helpful than sharing a real-life experience and stories.
Thank you in advance

Kevin Shackelford I chose mechanical valve and was very concerned about warfarin impact on my lifestyle. The fact is 1 year post op it has not impacted my life in any significant way. I am active, cycle, mountain bike and play basketball. My valve choice also allows me to run a low INR 1.8 - 2.2 so it no issues with bleeding to date. Good luck with your decision.
Adela Morsz Hi Hasan! Do you consider INSPIRIS RESILIA aortic valve or Ross Procedure?

Cathleen Weed Hi I was in the same boat. I had a bovine valve in my 20's and then chose another bovine valve at age 33. I did need another one two years ago at age 44 but they did the TAVR procedure and it was awesome. It looks like it will be standard by the time you would need another one in 10/11 years if you choose a bovine valve this time. I totally understand your dilemma. I too was very against coumadin because of my age and active lifestyle. Best decision ever for me. :)
