Is it safe to take Xarelto tablets for long flights if one has a bovine valve.
Rose Madura To be safe, I'd put a call into your cardiologist about that.

Marie Myers I Think what that means is Xarelto should not be used as the primary anticoagulant for a mechanical artificial valve. Warfarin (Coumadin) is still the proven drug for clot prevention in mechanical valves. Since tissue valves do not require the Coumadin-level of anticoagulation, Xarelto is safe to take with a bovine valve, in my humble opinion.
Elwyn Schenk Thank you so much Marie. God bless you

Erik Jensen Hi Elwyn. I agree with Marie. You must be on Warfarin if you have a mechanical valve (like me) because of the way it’s designed. Red blood cells can get caught up in the valve’s “flap” hinges and clot (hence the need for Warfarin). Your tissue valve is built more like a real tricuspid human valve, without hinges and flaps, which is why no blood thinners are required. If you need a blood thinner for other purpose you can use Xarelto or Eliquis. All this said, I too recommend you double check with your cardiologist.
