Gabe was born with Down syndrome and HLHS. He had his PA banded at 4 months of age, the bi-directional Glenn at 9 months, ( almost lost him), a re-banding of the PA band at 11 months. That was in 2004. At the time we could not find any children who survived longer than 18 months or 7 years with this dual dx. Dr. Pedro del Nido at Children's hospital Boston was the only surgeon who thought a bi-vent repair was a possibility. At age 3.5, Gabe had his bi-directional Glenn taken down and had a full repair. http://youtu.be/y7BNDJC_-kM see video. Now he is 11 and doing incredibly well in every way. He has Mitral valve regurgitation, a cleft in his valve and a parachute valve. His leak is moderate and we are hoping to hold off mitral valve surgery until he is.finished growing.
