I just had my mortal valve replaced on Aug 6, 2015. I was expecting to wake up with it repaired. They all said it was bad but not too bad. Well the surgeon got in and found that it wasn't working at all. Just flapping around. So he replaced it with a pig valve and told me that my tricuspid valve is leaking moderately. I'm home now but having dizzy spells and feel like I can't find the right words.

Nancy D Beth, welcome to the site and people who encourage and help you along this journey! I too was found to have a mitral valve too far gone to repair. I have a cow valve, and am nearly at my year anniversary-Like in 8 days! ;-) I am glad you are home!! You can pace yourself that way. Please keep in mind you have to adjust to having your blood circulate more normally than it has in some time. I too had dizzy spells immediately post op. Even after they stopped all meds but the one for post op A-Fib I still had low blood pressure. I had to take my time getting up, stand for a bit before walking. This will pass but I found it helpful to take my B/P daily, and when the dizzy spells hit, recorded the results and took it with me to all doctors appointments. ;-)
As for "cardiac brain" I too had some of that initially, and it resolved quicker than the B/P did. Rest, walk a bit, and be gentle with yourself! You will turn the corner I promise!!

Mary K Welcome to our community. I agree with the others; take it step by step. By the way, are you walking? Even a few minutes three or four times a day makes a huge difference.
It is not unusual after being on the heart lung machine for cognitive functioning to be affected. You are out out of surgery, so give yourself time.
All the best to you. We are here for you.

Rita Savelis There are no "right" words Beth. Unexpected things are no fun at all. They require a lot of getting used to. I found out the night before my surgery that I would have mechanical valves not animal valves. I found out after surgery that 3 valves were fixed, not 2. I got an unexpected pacemaker 2 weeks later.... the list goes on. Hang in there.

Ericka Carlson Hi Beth, do they have you on Metoprolol? Those were some of the side effects I was having from that medication, along with migraines and insomnia.
