About Me

I was born with bicuspid AR, mild regurgitation until 57 years old, then moderate for 3 years, last 6 to 9 months became severe, close to 50% leaking backwards, impacting daily activities, leafs were heavily calcified and out of shape, also had bouts of tachycardia and brachycardia, plus high systolic and low diastolic. AVR surgery two weeks ago at 61 years old. Dr Hon Chi Suen is my cardio thoracic surgeon, Dr. Adrian Cheong is my cardiologist and Dr. Simon Chan was the anaesthetist. In HK, specialists are often not employed by the hospital, but have "visiting" rights. I had two days in ICU followed by 5 days normal ward before discharge. Surgery was at the Hong Kong Sanatorium - a large private hospital in HK. I benefitted from a holistic team approach with surgeon and cardiologist working closely together and checking on me twice a day.
