About Me (In My Own Words)
Hello everyone! About 12 years ago after going three months being undiagnosed with a low-grade fever and some fatigue, fluid buildup that would cause me to spit out clear foamy stuff that I thought was mucus, I was checked into the hospital after my nails started turning blue one afternoon and my new pediatrician heard a significant heart murmur. At the hospital they discovered a moderately leaking aortic valve and diagnosed me then with rheumatic aortic valve regurgitation after running all the tests, probably from a prior STREP infection that went undetected. Since then the regurgitation became severe leading to LV dilation and borderline reduce LV function, and the operation can't wait any longer. I'm hoping to undergo an aortic valve repair or the ROSS procedure as a backup if the valve isn't repairable as mechanical valves and life long blood thinners are something I would like to avoid. Dr. Ismail El-Hamamsy was so wonderful and gracious in answering all of my questions during the consultation call and I'm happy to be having this operation done by him so that hopefully my heart can remodel back to a normal size and function.
