About Me (In My Own Words)
I was diagnosed at the age of 23 with a bicuspid aortic valve. I was told at that time that I would more than likely need a valve replacement in 10 to 20 years. It has been 27 years. I've had echos yearly since. I was not prepared for the news that I had an aortic anyeurism of 4.8 cm. It was suggested that I have surgery within the year. I had my second opinion with Dr. Roselli in Cleveland and felt comfortable right from the start. I am otherwise healthy so he suggested surgery sooner rather than later. So here I am, petrified. I have a daughter who is a senior in high school. I am trying to fit this surgery in between her senior activities. I don't want to miss a thing! I have struggled as to whether I should wait until school gets out in June. Honestly, I feel selfish for doing this in the middle of her senior year since it is still considered "elective" at this point. My husband has been very supportive through all of this and encourages me everyday to have the surgery so I don't have the threat of rupture hanging over my head. I feel blessed that I found this website when I did. Your stories have been very encouraging and uplifting! Thanks so much!
