Michelle, Welcome to Heart Valve  Surgery.com I did have my aortic valve and part of of ascending aorta replaced . My doctor is also part of the Cleveland Clinic Team (although he is located in Rochester, NY). I do not have any memory from the night prior to surgery to two days post op. My doctor kept me heavily sedated after surgery. The endotrachial tube came out 24 hours after surgery, according to my husband. I was up walking two days post op with very little discomfort (tylenol only). I continue to get stronger everyday. I went back to work Monday. Today was my 8 week anniversary of my surgery. Michelle, I had my first valve replacement when my daughter was a freshman in college in Boston. My surgery was on 12/2/2002 and she was starting final exams. I flew her home for my surgery , flew her back for exams and then home again for the Christmas break. I'm heading shortly to the CC and Dr. Roselli for my second replacement. Somehow we just get though these things. With both, I did not want to wait. Waiting is the worst and I was concerned the first time that I was going to drop dead or not wake up in the morning. I don't have those fears this time but I do worry about complications with this surgery as I'm 12 years older.
