At the age of 50, I had an SVT episode which sent me to the emergency room. During follow up, Echo showed bicuspid valve, aortic root aneurysm, and severe regurgitation.
I am headed to surgery later this summer at the Cleveland Clinic under the care of Dr. Roselli. I feel fortunate to be in great hands. He is going to attempt to replace the aortic root with a valve repair.
Update** Dr. Roselli was unable to repair my native valve due to a laundry list of issues with the valve. Plan B was a bio-bentall. Hoping to get 15-20 years from it and reassess next steps.
I had a prolonged ICU stay of 7 days. Both lower lobes of lungs were collapsed, consistent issues with SVT and then afib, requiring several interventions (cardioversion) and medicinal approaches.
Just entered week 3 post surgery and feel much much better. Still a long way to go but on the road to recovery.
