My valve story started some 20 years ago now, when I was in graduate school. While in for a check-up for joint pain, my doc noticed a very faint murmur. I sometimes joke that I have 2 strikes on my heart as 10 years later I had successful cardiac ablation done to fix an intermittent arrhythmia problem. I think I'm going to go with the 9 lives paradigm instead of three strikes, lol. Anyway, fast forward to recent years and regular check-ups with my cardiologist that have shown my aorta slowly enlarging. I'm right on the border of having to get my aortic root and atrial valve replaced. I anticipated not having to deal with this for quite a while longer, so my world has been turned upside down.
