About Me (In My Own Words)
I’m now 50 years old and was diagnosed in 2024 with a bicuspid aortic valve with moderate to severe regurgitation with an aortic aneurysm in the ascending aorta measuring 4.9cm.
My first cardiologist visit it was recommended I have surgery asap to replace the aortic valve and have the aneurysm repair. In shock I looked for a 2nd opinion as I am a full time career Firefighter and was not ready to put that on hold as well as raising 3 teenage kids.
A year later after May more tests I saw another cardiologist and surgeon that reported the same findings although now saying regurgitation was severe category and aneurysm was measuring. 5.3 cm. This followed with a 2nd opinion from another surgeon Dr.Tyrone David that suggested I have this done asap as the left ventricle has become enlarged and working hard. I finally got in for surgery January 6th 2026 and the surgery was a life saving success thanks to an amazing team and surgeon Dr. Tyrone David at Toronto General Hospital, Peter Munk Cardiac Centre. Praise God for them all and the great care they all provided for me. I am forever grateful!
I’m in my 3rd week recovery now and I’m not gonna lie it’s been a rollercoaster of emotions and pain but “this too shall pass”.
If anyone out there has questions about anything in there journey please feel free to ask anything. I did when I was facing this new battle. If it weren’t for this website and all people so willing to share their journey with me I’m not sure where I’d be with this. So thank you so much to Adam Pick who started this whole thing. Cheers y’all and as Adam always says “keep on tick in”
Angus
