I'm 62 years old and In July, 2023 my internal doctor, during my yearly physical, heard a heart murmur and didn't like the way it sounded. But the fact that I was not showing symptoms he was not overly concerned but he scheduled an echocardiogram just to see what is going on. I already had plans to leave for Europe the next week so the echocardiogram had to wait 3 months. I came back in October and had my echocardiogram right away. My cardiologist noticed I had Severe Aortic Regurgitation and scheduled an appointment with Dr. Roumanas in 2 weeks. I went to the appointment yesterday and Dr. Roumanas was wonderful. He explained to me what is going on. He Let me know that because I had no symptoms he considered the operation as elective surgery, and was very patient with me as I asked him a ton of questions. He was willing to stay hours with me to make sure I had all of my questions answered. I thought that was fantastic. He did want to make it clear to me that because I was sort of young and healthy and very active that it would be better to get it done sooner than later. I always believed that it usually the best thing to do so I decided to schedule the surgery for January 29th 2024, in about five weeks. After I scheduled it his nurse came back n with lots of paperwork and brochures and explained everything that was going to happen in the next 5 weeks in excruciating detail. That is what I do in my work so I totally appreciated that approach too. She even gave me breathing and leg exercises to do to get me ready for post-op. I have a sheet with everything I need to do and expect. Plus she was so nice and understanding. So there is my story. I will give updates as soon as I have any. I thank God that there is this community of folks who are all sharing the same things. Thank you!
