Terri Grimes Hi Penny, things are finally better. I'm posting a journal about it tonight, but I ended up being allergic to one of the IV drugs they were trying to treat my endocarditis with. Things got pretty bad for a while. How are you though! You've had quite a journey yourself. Hope your feeling better!

Elaine Foster I am so sorry you are having these complications. It is a good warning to all of us, that just because we have come thru heart valve surgery and feel we have been "fixed", that for the rest of our lives we have to be pro-active and listen to our bodies. You will be in my prayers, I hope this treatment gets easier for you.

Terri Grimes I remember Oliphant well. Car shopped there more than once. I almost went with a tissue valve but the night before my surgery my heart surgeon called and discussed my fears about the mechanical valve. I didn't want to hear a clicking sound every time my heart beat. And I didn't want to depend on blood thinners. In the long run I'm glad I went with the mechanical. And I've only heard my valve click once. And that was when I stuck a digital voice recorder in my bra for a minute while my hands were busy. Still not fond of taking Coumadin, but I can live with it.
My husband was interested hearing you live in Parsonsburg. He grew up in a white farmhouse on Old Ocean City Road in Parsonsburg.

Hi Terri,
Myhusband (66 yrs) had Aortic Stenosis and had replacement of aortic valve and mitral valve repair last Dec 24. He fainted 3 times and
the first one about 6 months ago and postponed the angiogram till he had breathing difficulty. He is now recuperating at home and has not experience any pain at all. He spent 19 days at the hospital since he had this internal bleeding in his stomach
that the doctors had to stop. By Feb 1 his cardio doctor prescribed 75 mg Plavix
which is making me worry about another internal bleeding. What do you think ?
Thanks for posting your journal. From Mother of 3

Hope you recover quickly from all of this. Doesn\'t it make you cross when you expect so much more from the medical profession. Everyone was so careful not to touch my scar until I had to go back into emergency in week three. The doctor on call touched my scar with her ungloved hand all the way down. I just remember thinking, \"Has my scar healed over!\" - Especially when I\'d only come the physiotherapist the day before and see was so very cautious. I was more fortunate than you - nothing happened but it amazes me that they can be so careless.

Terri Grimes I agree Jan, he definately deserves a medal! OMG! That gives me an idea!!! I think I'll make a medal for him for Christmas. Something silly like wrap gauze around a bottle and mount it on a plaque or mount a roll of gauze on a wooden plaque. The ideas are popping! Maybe do up a certificate on the PC to go with it for male home health nurse of the year. Thanks for the idea!
I hope you have a happy Thanksgiving too. You're in my thoughts and prayers Jan.

Glad to hear that you are doing much better. I know how difficult and stressful it is to deal with the doctors and the pain and the frustration. I think we all do. But its a very emotional experience. The iv pains were also something I experienced. They were giving me lipid enzymes(this pure white fluid stuff) through a normal iv and it litterally burned my veins. i remember curling up in the hospital bed just balling from the agony i wanted to rip it out so bad i finally just begged the nurse to take it out after 3 switchings to a different vien. my veins took a really long time to heal from it. THankfully though i\'m healing up a lot better and i hope the same for you :) now that youre home get lots of rest and find activities for you to do so you dont get bored!

Terri Grimes You know exactly what I was feeling then with the IV meds! I was okay until that last Tues in the hospital when none of the ivs would work. Then I got so depressed and cried all day. I don't want anyone to go through what you and I went through but I must say, it's a relief to talk to someone who has had similar experiences.

Terri,
I\'ve been checking this site on and off all day waiting on your update. I\'m sorry that you are having to go through this. I would definitely report both of those home health care nurses to the state board. They have no business being in the health care system.
I\'m thankful that your doctor was able to treat the infection, and hopefully all will be well within the next week.
Your experience has taught me a valuable lesson. I will NOT be afraid to speak up should I encounter something that I feel is \'not right\'.
Will be thinking of and praying for your swift recovery. Hugs.

Terri,
One thing I\'ve learned (and I think you know) is that you, the patient, need to take the lead in your care and YOU are the one who knows when something is wrong. Trust your instincts.
Call your surgeon\'s off tomorrow (if not tonight) - they always have someone on call. OR, call your primary care physician. I had my surgery in Cleveland and live in South Carolina so when I had any issues, I worked with my PCP or my Cardiologist. I was lucky, they were both very responsive to any concerns I had.
Don\'t wait to see the home nurse before calling.
Listen to your gut. Call!
Good luck!!!
