Good to hear you are recovering. I am scheduled for HVS at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix in September. I'd love to hear your thoughts/comments on the program there. I have my surgery with Dr. Kirsten Sell-Dottin.

Susan Dickson There is definitely a team approach at Mayo—many working together for the best outcome for the patient. My surgeon was Dr. Bryan Barrus. He was very patient with all my questions. I appreciated that they focused on techniques to minimize pain and enhance recovery. They also considered the best treatment for the rest of my life, not just a short term fix. Anyway, the care I experienced was excellent. Hope you find it to be true for you.
Looks like we share both a diagnosis and surgery date.
Good luck to both of us!

Susan Dickson Hi, Cecilia. Hope your surgery went well and you’re getting stronger every day! I have a bovine tissue valve and at 8 weeks I’m feeling great. We just got back from a trip to see our grandchildren. I wasn’t sure if I would be able to handle all the airport walking but I had no issues. Best wishes for your continued recovery!

Hi Susan
God bless you as you have your surgery. I had a bicuspid aortic valve with aortic stenosis too. My open heart surgery was 8 yrs ago this month. Everything went so well and is still going great. I got a tissue valve as well. You will do fine.

Susan,
Stay positive. While the surgery is daunting, you'll get through this just fine. I had my aortic valve replace May 15, 2023. I was fully recovered and doing everything I wanted in 3 months. I had the surgery on a Monday and was home on Friday. I also got a biological valve and all went well. I only take Metoprolol since the surgery . I will be 74 in August and have had no restrictions (diet, exercise, activity) since the surgery. You'll do it too and keeping a positive attitude is a huge part of the recovery. Good Luck. Mike

Hi Susan Also needed an aortic valve replacement among other things and am doing well since the surgery. Like others awaiting surgery, the anxiety level was through the roof but the procedure went well and I was out of the hospital in 5 days. I chose to go to Cleveland Clinic but I'm sure the Mayo Clinic and your doctor are top notch. Good luck with your procedure and I wish you the very best.

Hello Susan , hope all goes well. I also had a live tissue bicuspid valve replacement. This was 5 years ago. I recovered well and just a few days of sleeping uncomfortably but found relief by using a reclining chair instead of a bed.
