Hi, thank you for sharing your valve story. I’m grateful to be in this community to read and know other situations of having valve replaced. Mine were aortic and mitral replacement to mechanical and taking warfarin for life. 5 months post op yesterday Aug. 10, my 2nd birthday🎊😃🙏thanks be to God! I back to office works after 90 days, there are days I’m not feeling well physically and emotionally as I need to be patient to myself and read successful stories here to motivate myself that I am in the right path to long life and good health after that valve replacement. By the way, you’re the same age as my mother while I am 45 yrs old now. So, keep in touch here in our community❤️Take care😊

Louise Moore Hi Lilian, so funny, I was six months post op on Aug. 10th! - and believe me, you will heal by leaps and bounds in this next month. You'll look back and some days just find it hard to believe you went through that surgery. The incision is the only thing to remind you and it's actually good to be reminded so you respect the healing time. It's wonderful to know that your heart is functioning now at its best and it will last. I'm doing everything I normally would do except swimming. I don't want to chance irritating my incision scar. In cardio rehab the nurse told me to rub Vitamin E oil on it, pressing hard and in small tight circles. I do that about every third day if it feels tight or crisp. Right now my husband and I are on a road trip from Florida to Nova Scotia, our first lengthy trip since Covid and surgery time - still masking and avoiding crowded areas but feeling free again. It's a marvel! Let's both stay in touch here in this great community of heart warriors and I'll be thinking of you 😘

Louise Moore Hello Randy, I will gladly email you of “ good to know” things of our experience at CC and the Intercontinental. I was discharged yesterday and have follow- up appointments ( EKG, Echo, labs and chest tube stitches nipped) so I’ll write to you after that as that will be the last stop in my stay. Rest assured, you will find a service oriented and tightly organized system working both with the hospital and hotel.
Louise Moore Ahh, my follow up appointments are tomorrow.

Louise Moore Thank you, Sandy and Tony! I am now the proud recipient of a pig tissue Mitral valve. My Tricuspid valve got repaired and the Aortic valve was left as is- it has only mild regulation and if it declines over time I can have TAVR for that valve. The Dr. said the Mitral replacement will aid the health of all the valves. It’s day 3 and I feel surprisingly well. I sat in a chair yesterday and today with no issues, am eating soup and soft items. Chest Draining tubes came out today and others to follow. I have to attribute the outcome to the attentiveness of the medical staff here at CC. George said something like this in a past post and I concur: I believe my expiration date has been extended!

Louise Moore George, thank you so much! Yes, we braved the early morning hour in the snow to begin a day of testing and am waiting now to be admitted as they will monitor and control my clotting factor. Louise, you *did* hire the best Black Ops team. Congrats! My experience with CC was nothing shy of excellent. As a high volume shop, that means they are very process-driven — like all successful organizations — and you need to understand how their teams work and know there is a safety net around you at all times into which you can “trust fall”. But it may be invisible to you, or it may be with folks with whom you weren’t familiar.
If you have not spent time talking to Dr. Gillinov and team to understand exactly what the playbook is for surgery later this month really try to do that. I would have done myself a favor if I had spent time with Dr. Pettersson earlier in the process. Please scroll back and read my posts from Sept, Oct 2018 and it can give you a feel for my surgery and recovery timeline, but we are all different with different levels of surgical intervention needed. But YOU GOT THIS.

Louise Moore Rob, I just read all your posts (great!) and you presented a really good understanding for me as I ready to jump into the groove at CC. It's so helpful to hear of all your experiences, even though our own experiences will be unique, many reflect one another. I payed particular attention to your own deep breathing, slow exhale technique as I know I'll be working that spirometer asap - It will be a priority for me to get the lungs fully functioning without issue, heh, heh, I guess everything will feel like a priority but I'll be very focused on the lung work. Today or next week I'll speak with Dr. Gillinov's nurse to review the plan of surgery in detail (thank you) to be sure to know if there's possibilities I haven't been aware of yet. So glad it's working out so well for you, I'll do my part to follow the line behind you! 👍🏼
