Hi Kathleen. I'm Terry and I had a mitral valve robotic repair in 2010. It worked out well for almost a dozen years but now it's sprung a severre leak. Although I have no symptoms, I am being encouraged (mostly by the surgeons) to have it repaired sooner than later. Recovery from the operation is not that bad at all. I didn't have any problems to speak of and no pain at all. I wish you well and please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions.

Best of luck to you for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery. Your experience is slightly similar to mine where Cardiologist #1 either had bad hearing or was lazy and could not hear the mitral valve through the stethoscope. Instead, he kept prescribing pills, some that were quite debilitating, like Clonidine. I never developed AFIB but had frequent PVCs and some non-sustained SVT. After 2 years I lost confidence in him and went to Dr. Eric Hong who literally sensed it during my first visit after which I had further tests and surgery within 3 months.
I don't know where I would be had I stayed with Cardiologist #1, but I have a feeling that it would not have been good, or I would have suffered a lot more damage by the time he finally figured it out. One other thing about Cardiologist #1, in that the 6 or 7 visits that I made to his office, I noticed that I was the ONLY patient that ever walked in under my own power. On my last visit, they actually had a traffic jam of people with wheelchairs and walkers in the hallway that someone had to alleviate. This makes me think of that old adage, "when you are a hammer, you see every problem as a nail." I only wish I had dumped him sooner.
I had a mitral valve repair in 2018 for severe regurgitation and haven't looked back.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
